A thorough background check and fingerprinting is required to teach in Washington. The background record check consists of a check through the Washington State Patrol (WSP) and FBI. The results of the WSP and FBI background check are forwarded to the OSPI and entered into an online Educational Data System (EDS). All Washington educational institutions have access to the EDS.
