Outdoor recreation
Washington’s outdoor recreation is legendary, whether you love to hike, explore national parks, sail, ski or undertake dozens of other endeavors. When it comes to outside recess, there really isn’t anything you can’t do.
Culture and community
Washington has long been considered a cultural touchstone, birthplace of Jimi, Quincy and Pearl Jam, former home to artist Chuck Close, cartoonist Matt Groening and the late playwright August Wilson. Our communities glisten with street murals, sway with festivals and swell with farmer’s markets all year round.
Lifestyle
From food trucks to winery dinners and concerts, Washingtonians experience the good life. Open space abounds in the Palouse, trails lead up mountain peaks and beside urban lakes. Settle above the Columbia Gorge for a concert, paddle into Bellingham Bay or heck, do both!
WHAT IT’S LIKE TO TEACH IN WASHINGTON
Washington’s geographical and cultural diversity often surprises newcomers and residents alike. Known as the Evergreen State, our landscape encompasses deserts, grasslands as well as forests and mountains. Our students are equally diverse, a dynamic population who is ready to grow intellectually and emotionally.
